After changing from the apple made safari to firefox, mainly to be able to use all functions of ebay properly, I was actually quite sad to loose the preview of Inquisitor. Finally, the firefox add-on Peers replaces this function within the search function of firefox. It gives an overview on Google or Yahoo search results, but also often visited websites likes wikipedia or dictionaries.

This was the more or less last reason to stick to safari ;-)

iTranslate (for you)

Posted in MacOS by elisasdottir on August 26, 2008

MacTeX: LaTeX for MacOS

Posted in MacOS by elisasdottir on June 11, 2008

You have to write scientific essays or articles, maybe even with mathematic formulas? You need a program to build proper pdf-documents? You are sick of MSWord formatting errors and misbehavior? LaTeX will be your new friend, if you have some five seconds to make yourself comfortable with a new way of writing texts into a document.

In the past, it was a bit complicated to install LaTeX in a Mac. Especially if you belong to the »click-and-marvel-fraction« who is not familiar with the terminal and unix commands. MacTeX fills this blank and provides a full package of everything you need to make your LaTeX run on MacOS without any trouble.

You can get it for free e.g. via the website of Cologne University.

Inquisitor

Inquisitor is called »the spotlight for the web« and this simply is it. The great Safari extension helps to search the web with different machines and gives a small preview of the first search results. One of the best features: You can localize your google site independent from your system language in use!
